AIR CAPITAL CLASSIC ANNOUNCES THREE-YEAR EXTENSION WITH PGA TOUR THROUGH 2016 22 Local Companies Sign On as “Ambassadors” Aetna Makes Key Commitment as Presenting Sponsor WICHITA, KANSAS – Wichita golf fans and recent charitable recipients received some great news today when it was announced that the Air Capital Classic and the PGA TOUR had reached an agreement to extend the PGA TOUR cosponsored tournament three years, through the 2016 event. Two highlights of today’s press conference were the announcements that, 1) 22 companies have signed two-year commitments to become Ambassadors, generating over $300,000 in revenue for the tournament, and 2) Aetna has entered into a three-year agreement to become the tournament’s new Presenting Sponsor. With today’s developments, the tournament’s official name becomes the Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna. The 2014 Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna will be played in June. The specific tournament week dates will be announced in the near future. The Classic will return to Crestview Country Club for the 13th consecutive year. “The Wichita community has really stepped up to help us solidify the Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna,” said Air Capital Charities, Inc. board co-chairman, Jack Pelton. “We would like to recognize and thank all of our Ambassadors and extend a special thank you to our new presenting sponsor, Aetna. Their commitment is vital and establishes a solid foundation for us. Our work is not done, however, by any means. The more support we receive and the more generous additional tournament benefactors are, the more successful we will be in raising money for the Wichita charities the tournament supports.” “We are extremely pleased to become the presenting sponsor of this Web Tour event and will work together with our aviation colleagues to make it a very successful event,” said Brad Clothier, Kansas/Oklahoma Market President for AETNA, which completed the acquisition of Coventry Health Care and its local health plans in May. “Over the past 14 years, our local operations through Coventry and Preferred Health Systems have supported the Wichita Tour stop and related events, contributing more than $4 million as a past title sponsor and through other ongoing support. The tournament provides much-needed benefits to the Wichita community through donations to charities and opportunities for Kansas employers.” “The support from our business community has been fantastic,” said tournament director Roy Turner. “We are grateful to the Ambassadors for their vital individual commitments and couldn’t be happier to have Aetna on board as our new presenting sponsor. The Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna is poised to have its very best years ahead, beginning in 2014.” “We couldn’t be happier about today’s news that the tradition of bringing the Web Tour to Wichita will continue for a 25th, 26th and 27th year,” said Web Tour President, Bill Calfee. “Wichita has been with us since day one and has played a big part in shaping the growth and success this Tour has experienced. We congratulate Jack Pelton, Aetna’s Brad Clothier and Roy Turner for their leadership in reaching out to the Wichita business community and establishing these partnerships with the Ambassadors and Aetna. On behalf of the Web Tour and its players, we welcome Aetna to our family of sponsors. We look forward to working with them to maximize the impact of their sponsorship commitment, as well as the Ambassadors.” The 2013 Air Capital Classic was won by Scott Parel, who defeated Alex Prugh by three shots in June. Wichita is one of four cities that was on the first Web Tour schedule in 1990 and has remained on the schedule every year since, joining Boise, ID, Knoxville, TN, and Springfield, MO. More on the Ambassadors Through a lot of hard work and hours, Jack Pelton, Brad Clothier, Roy Turner and others have enlisted the support of 22 Wichita-area companies to form the Ambassadors program. The Ambassadors will serve as the financial and promotional nucleus of the Air Capital Classic presented by Aetna.
