AIR POWER DISCUSSION-ANSWER:Is It Wrong For A Christian To Pay Bribe Even Though He Is Not The One Initiating It? Are there instances in the bible where bribes were paid? I believe there are. To bribe means to give something valuable (such as money) in order to get someone to do something. Lets examine three examples. 1. Delilah Judges 16:5 And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver. Delilah was bribed to find the source of Samsons strength. 2. Judas Matthew 26:15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver Judas was paid thirty pieces of silver to betray Jesus. 3. David 1 Samuel 17:25 ..... And it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his fathers house free in Israel. David was bribed by King Saul with money, a beautiful woman and exemption from taxes to fight Goliath. In conclusion, It was right in Davids case but wrong in the cases of Delilah and Judas. The principle is: A genuine bribe must not break either the laws of men or the laws of God.
