AKHA Probes Flood Menace in Uyo Metropolis The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly through a motion brought by the member representing Uyo State Constituency, Hon. Edwin Joseph drew the attention of the House to the massive flooding witnessed in Uyo Metropolis and its environs, recently. He said the flood has wrecked havoc in some places and this include Bassey Akpan Street in Osung AMA where property worth millions of Naira were destroyed and many people rendered homeless. He argued that the flood water sinks sewages to boreholes and this according to him, is hazardous to health. He said that from his findings, the primary cause of the flood is poor drainage system of the ongoing road construction in the affected areas. He urged the House to call on the executive to direct her relevant agencies to look into the matter and proffer possible solutions and compensations to the affected persons. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Samuel Ikon however called on the House Committee on Environment to go round and ensure that there is proper documentation as well as liaising with the Committee set up by the State Government to enlarge their scope to cover flooding areas. He mandated the House Committee on Works and Transport in conjunction with the State Ministry of Works to visit sites and take up matter with construction company.
