AKSG has provided enabling environment for investors -Commerce Commissioner By Franklyn ISONG The Commissioner for Commerce and Industries, Mr. Martyns Udoinyang, weekend, said that Akwa Ibom State government under Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio has provided enabling environment for private investors to do do business in the state. He made the assertion in a chat with newsmen after an inspection tour of some privately owned industries in the state, noting that the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bank of Industries to grant loans to Akwa Ibom indigenes to enable them establish good businesses in the state. On the establishment of industries in the 31 local government Areas of the state, Udoinyang intimated that Akpabio did not say that the government was going to establish 31 industries, rather, according to him; “the governor said his administration would encourage local investors to come and invest in the state by providing the enabling environment for businesses to thrive.” He said further that the Ministry’s inspection tour was carried out in order to gather first hand information of successes made by some Akwa Ibom investors in the area of industries; know their challenges and the areas that need government attention. The Industries’ commissioner lauded the efforts of Akwa Ibom indigenes who have established industries in the state, saying that the government would assist them to succeed. Earlier, the inspection tour took the Ministry’s team to Jekon Integrated Farms (Nig) Ltd., Uyo, where the team was conducted round the company’s facilities by the Chairman of the Farm, and Project Coordinator, Mr. Joseph Etim Okon, and Godswealth Henry, respectively. The team went to Newyear Transaction Company, Uruan and was shown round the site by Ubong Ofong, the site manager; while at Etefon Nig. Ltd, Uyo, a food processing industry, the Managing Director, Mrs. Imo Isemin, wife of the former governor of the state and her production manager, Ekong Akpabio conducted team round the facilities. At Dekan Nig. Ltd., along Ekom Iman/Etinan road, the team was received and conducted round the site by the chairman and chief executive officer of the company, Chief David Udoh. Udoh lamented that apart from lack of access to the company premises, power supply was another major challenge as there was no transformer to enable electricity gets to the company. Though he complained further that the government was yet to issue him Certificate of Occupancy which he had applied for, he thanked the commissioner for the unscheduled visit, describing him as the best for the job. He also lauded the state governor for his achievements in the state, calling on the people of the state to support the present administration to succeed. He advised indigenes of the state to take advantage of the government’s enabling environment and invest in the state in order to create employment opportunities to jobless youths of the state. The tour ended at Tri-Lan Nig. Ltd., Uyo and was received by the company’s chairman, Rev. Donatus Archibong. Vol. 1 no. 3
