AKUFO-ADDO WINS!! NPP TO BE IN OPPOSITION AGAIN? Provisional - TopicsExpress

AKUFO-ADDO WINS!! NPP TO BE IN OPPOSITION AGAIN? Provisional results at the close of voting for the NPP Presidential primaries indicate Nana Akufo- Addo has won. I have some comments: 1. There were a number of irregularities with constituency executives who are supposed to be neutral and referees serving as Polling Station Agents for Nana Akufo-Addo. There was massive intimidation all over the country with Constituency Chairmen and some Senior party members hijacking the polling centers demanding to see who the delegates vote for. Delegates were threatened to vote for Nana Akufo Addo otherwise they will be flushed out and beaten. Why will Bugri Naabu declare results before 3:00pm, the stipulated time to end voting 2. Nana Akufo-Addo has won the NPP Primaries but will find it difficult to win the Presidency and consequently cement the NPP in the abyss of opposition. The party has endorsed John Mahama’s second term in office. The party should have analysed the reason why it failed to win the 2008 and 2012 but carelessly going into 2016 with the same mistakes!! Anytime Akufo-Addo votes appreciates within the NPP, his votes at the national elections depreciates. It seems personality cult in NPP matters more than political power. If Alan Kyeramaten had won, he would have been able to deliver the Presidency to the NPP in 2016 and 2021. The NPP today is dangerously obsessed with satisfying the ego of an individual than seeking for political power which is the ultimate. Nana Akufo-Addo is increasingly viewed by growing numbers of Ghanaians as a potential troublemaker; violent, abrasive and unforgiving especially if as expected he loses the 2016 election. An alternative candidate would have put the NPP on a better footing to take on President John Mahama. There are some characters around Akuffo -Addo who obviously repels his votes, yet he allows them to be around him because they are the so called the coterie who rather misinform him than give him good advice. Nana Akufo-Addo has failed to bring the likes of Kennedy Agyapong, Bugri Naabu, Dr Amoako Tuffour, Hopeson Ardoye etc who insults and threatens every dissenting view in the party except Akufo Addo. Majority will only keep quite and vote their way come 2016. From all indications John Mahama of Bole-Bamboi cannot be defeated by Akufo-Addo of Akyem - Abuakawa. In all, what the NPP has done is choosing an individual over power. 3. It would have been undemocratic for Alan Kyeramaten to concede defeat after the 31st Super Delegates election and would have belittling the whole notion of internal democracy in NPP and as well kill his presidential ambition. 4. Alan Kyeramaten is likely to increased his percentage of votes from 7.98% during the Super Delegates election on 31st August. Alan has therefore positioned himself as the “Second Force” in NPP just as Nana Akufo-Addo did after the 1998 Presidential Primaries of NPP. It means whether Akufo-Addo wins the 2016 election or not, Alan will likely succeed him as flagbearer of NPP. The fortunes of Alan have always dwindled in NPP internal contest over the past years. Alan chalked 32.30% in 2007, 20.40% in 2010 and 7.97%in the August 2014 Super Delegates election and then appreciated today making him a viable alternative to Akufo-Addo. One way to consolidate this is for Alan to begin networking. He must revive his Kalamari and get the right people to work for him at the grassroots continuously. 5. I have carefully followed internal elections in NPP since 1992 and the trend was such that whoever that wins the National Chairmanship always had his perceived favourite Presidential candidate winning the NPP Flagbearer election. 2014 is an exception. National Chairman Peter Ala Adjetey was perceived to be for JA Kufour in 1996 and he (JA Kufour) won. Odoi Sykes was perceived to be for JA Kufour and he won the primaries for the 2000 election. Haruna Esseku, a then JA Kufour protégé was Chairman and Kufour went unopposed as the 2004 candidate. Peter Macmanu a known supporter of Akufo-Addo was Chairman before the 2000 election and Nana Akufo Addo won the primaries for the 2000 election. Nana Akufo Addo fielded Jake Obetsebi- Lamptey for Chairman in 2010 and subsequently won the primaries for the 2012 election. As a friend said, NPP will be going to the 2016 election with the weakest National General Secretary in its history, if the current tactics and the body language of Nana Akufo- Addos handlers persist. And with a history of no political party wining an election with a weak General Secreatry in Ghana, NPP might be repeating the 2012 history. Already some people are saying Paul Afoko is facing problems because he is the first Chairman of NPP from the North. Notwithstanding my views, I congratulate Nana Akufo Addo for his victory. Good luck NANA AKUFO ADDO I wish u all the best !! Signed .............. Her Excellency Sikaba ( Ambassador for Change)
