AKWA IBOM GUBER: UYO STANDS STILL AS UDOM EMMANUEL DECLARES AMBITION. BY JOE EFFIONG, UYO Major streets and roads in Uyo in Akwa Ibom State were blocked yesterday, as the immediate past Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Udom Emmanuel, declared his gubernatorial ambition during a rally organized at the Uyo stadium by the Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA). Streets and roads that were cordoned off by security men because of the event, which was attended by dignitaries, including the wife of the governor, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, were Aka Road, Udoumana Street, Obio Imo Street and Ndiya Street. Addressing the crowd that converged on the stadium, Udom commended Governor Godswill Akpabio for transforming the state and pledged to sustain and build on the successes of the present administration if he emerged the governor in 2015. His words: “The state has been transformed from a pedestrian destination that nobody ever considered visiting to a must-see wonder of infrastructure development, a pride destination and a recreation gateway. World-class roads and 32 bridges have been delivered in the past eight years. “Prof. Wole Soyinka, who came to Akwa Ibom, had made a statement. He said the state under Governor Akpabio, has attained a quantum point in infrastructure development. I stand by that word today and promise Akwa Ibom people that this momentum of development must be sustained and built upon.” The former SSG who resigned from his position on Monday, urged Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election, adding that the state was ready for the next phase of development and that what would bring that to reality is the leadership of the state..
