New Disability Claim Form for the VA The VA is introducing a standard disability claims form to better serve Veterans, families and survivors. Standardizing the process by which Veterans file claims and initiate appeals will make it easier for Veterans and their survivors to clearly state what benefits they are seeking from VA and provide information that is necessary to process their claims and appeals. The new forms eliminate applicant guesswork, which has often led to delays in receiving benefits. The new regulations will go into effect in late March 2015. In the past, a Veteran or survivor did not have to use a certain form to seek compensation or other benefits from VA. Claims or appeals (Notice of Disagreement) could be submitted on any piece of paper which caused delays due to missing information. The updated process also includes standardizing the traditional informal claims process by employing a new Intent to File a Claim process which affords the Veteran or survivor one year to compile the necessary documentation or evidence to support the claim while preserving an effective date of claim vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-21-526EZ-ARE.pdf 4.Hiring assistance for disabled veterans If a veteran is disabled, and does not have a VA rating, they may be eligible to use the Schedule A hiring authority. This is a special hiring authority for persons with disabilities regardless of their veteran status opm.gov/disability/mngr_3-13.asp There are also two special programs which they may be eligible for, that allow disabled persons to register their resumes in a shared database for access by Federal agencies: a. Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) https://wrp.gov/StudentRegisterInstructionPre.do b. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) shared disability register: benderconsult/careers/federal-careers Click on submit resume. Many Federal organizations are utilizing the Benders List to look for candidates . This may be a helpful resource for wounded warriors and disabled veterans 5.
