The events, ALCOSAN & YOU: Working together for clean water, will be held at the IBEW Circuit Center, 5 Hot Metal Street in the South Side on Wednesday, January 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 and 6:30 to 8:30 pm, and at ALCOSAN, 3300 Preble Avenue in the North Side on Thursday, January 29 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Doors to all events will open 30 minutes prior to the community discussions. “Sewer overflows are a problem that affect everyone, and creating a 21st Century wastewater system will take everyone working together,” said ALCOSAN’s Public Information Officer Jeanne K. Clark. “We hope citizens throughout the region join in these and future community discussions as we move forward on the largest public works water quality project in the Pittsburgh-area.” The meetings will detail ALCOSAN’s ongoing work as one of the region’s prime public health and environmental organizations, and the Authority’s plans to eliminate sewer overflows in the region’s waterways. ALCOSAN’s senior staff will be presenting background and details of the current system, the plan for regionalization, and work by ALCOSAN and its customer municipalities to eliminate storm water. ALCOSAN also will provide its annual progress report on the development of its Wet Weather Control Plan. Because ALCOSAN is in confidential negotiations with the federal government, no details of those negotiations will be offered. ALCOSAN will provide free shuttle service from the Port Authority’s Allegheny T station for the Thursday event, and refreshments will be served at all three events. To pre-register or for more information, go to alcosan.org or call 412-734-8733.
