ALDOT has diverted from its announced plans and is now expediting - TopicsExpress

ALDOT has diverted from its announced plans and is now expediting the North Eufaula Avenue road widening project by pulling up the parkway curbing following the tree canopy trimming overhead. We understood that ALDOT’s contractor would take four or five days to trim the tree canopy before beginning any work on the widening portion of the project. They are apparently moving forward in an attempt to circumvent any Circuit or Federal Court decision on the project. This is an absolute travesty as one friend of North Eufaula Avenue recently stated. I hold Governor Robert Bentley personally responsible for this action as he refused to stop it and said he would not allow ALDOT to do any harm to the City of Eufaula. He allowed himself to be manipulated by ALDOT Director John Cooper. The Mayor and three City Council representatives also share heavily in this blame as they turned their backs on the North Eufaula Avenue neighborhood to accept what amounts to bribes offered by ALDOT. The beautiful tree shaded North Eufaula Avenue parkway and its historic homes annually help add almost $2.3 million to the local economy. The City of Eufaula stands to receive a paltry $ 300,000.00 from ALDOT over three years for their failure to protect the City’s ownership rights to the parkway/median. Eufaula, Alabama will never be the same as a result of this work. The sad fact is that the four-laning of North Eufaula Avenue will not solve the occasional traffic congestion issue and the western bypass will eventually be built. In the meantime, North Eufaula Avenue will be just a shell of its once majestic beauty.
