ALERT - FWC LETTER TO STAKEHOLDERS July 31, 2014 Dear Captive Wildlife Stakeholders: On behalf of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), thank you for your interest in captive wildlife rules in Florida. The FWC Captive Wildlife Office is interested in listening and hearing stakeholder opinions regarding rules regulating captive wildlife. It is important that captive wildlife rules are periodically reviewed, and if needed, adjusted to provide for both public safety and animal welfare. To better serve the needs of our stakeholders FWC is planning to host seven (7) public workshops throughout the state to allow for public input on captive wildlife rules. The workshops will allow the public to communicate directly to FWC staff. Input by way of electronic means is also available throughout the entire process. This process is intended to solicit input from all stakeholders and members of the public to gain a well-informed perspective that may be applied as potential modifications to rules are considered. At the conclusion of this developmental period any draft language will be presented to the FWC Commission in an open meeting. The statutorily prescribed rule making process will be applied before any possible changes are made to existing captive wildlife rules. The workshops are open to everyone and participation is encouraged. The dates will be sent under a separate letter and our website will be updated as details and locations are finalized. However, the lists of cities that the workshops will be held in are as follows: Panama City Jacksonville Orlando Tampa Naples West Palm Miami Florida has some of the most comprehensive captive wildlife requirements in the country and it is important to us that wildlife resources are managed for their long-term well being and the benefit of people.
