*************ALERT********************** Anyone soliciting in Carneys Point Township must have a permit on their person at all times issued by the Carneys Point Township. On September 15, 2014, it was reported that two subjects were walking around the village advising residence that they worked for South Jersey gas and that South Jersey Gas overcharged their customers last month. The two subjects asked to see the customer’s current bill and they would adjust the next month’s payment. The two subjects did not work for South Jersey Gas, but for a competitor of South Jersey Energy and when you provided them with your bill they would switch your provider without the customer’s knowledge. When officers caught up with the two subjects, the one subject was cooperative in the investigation and the other was discovered to have given a false name to officers in an attempt to conceal his identity. When the subjects true identity was learned, Martin Palmer, 20 years of age from Philadelphia, it was discovered that he had two outstanding warrants for his arrest out of the West Deptford Municipal Court and the Glassboro Municipal Court. It was also discovered that Palmer was in possession of under fifty grams of marijuana. Palmer was transported to headquarters and the other subject released on the scene. At headquarters, Palmer was charged with giving false information to a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana under fifty grams and soliciting without a permit. Palmer was processed and lodged in the Salem County Correctional Facility in default of the warrants and on the bail set on the new warrants.
