ALERT!! Cryptolocker Ransomeware A particularly nasty virus/malware is spreading through email and web site links . It destroys all your Microsoft Office docs, any pdfs and any photos, movies, or mp3s you may have both on your system and any shared network drive. Its usually delivered as an email from FedEx, DHL, Bank of America, Amazon and is disguised as a receipt pdf. When you click on the pdf, the virus is released on your system, and it starts to encrypt your files. If you want to recover your files, you have 3 days to pay two bitcoins ($300) in order for the decrypting of your files to begin, and there is no guarantee that your files will be recovered! The virus can be removed, but when detected, the damage has already been done. This is the problem. Prevention tips: 1. Do Not open links or attachments unless its an email you are expecting. 2. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date. 3. If you click on an email attached pdf, and a pdf is not displayed, shut down your system ASAP!! Then contact your IT support.
