ALERT: The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office says it has received a number of complaints about individuals who pose as deputies and call citizens demanding payment for outstanding tickets or warrants. Some of the callers even say sheriff’s deputies will come to peoples homes and arrest them if payment is not made. The sheriffs office is not a collection agency and under no circumstance will sheriffs office personnel call and request payment over the phone, Cpl. Brian Fletcher said. Citizens are urged to not give any personal information over the phone to anyone requesting money from them, Fletcher said. Uintah County Sheriff Vance Norton wants residents to contact the sheriff’s office or Central Dispatch if they have been a victim of this scam, Fletcher said.
