ALERT bank officers managed to “stop” an elderly woman, who was accompanied by a younger woman, from withdrawing RM100,000 from her account, Sin Chew Daily reported. The elderly woman almost lost her savings to the other woman, who had tried to pass off as the granddaughter. The suspect, believed to be from a scratch-and-win syndicate, had accompanied the victim to withdraw the sum from the bank in Seremban at 1pm on Jan 19, it reported. Bank officers were suspicious as the two women did not appear to be familiar with each other and did not look alike. The officers then asked the younger woman to produce her MyKad to verify her identity but she refused. When the officers pressed for more answers, the suspect, with the elderly woman in tow, quickly left the bank without withdrawing the money. They were seen going into a car waiting outside the bank. A photograph of the two women walking away from the bank was taken and posted on the social media.
