ALEX UPDATE!! A whole bin full of cards!! Alex was shocked! WOW!! Alex has received 363 cards from 45 states! Alex has received cards from THIRTEEN countries (USA, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain & Bora, Bora) and possibly one other world (Alpha Centauri B) WOW! The original FB post has been shared 1,735 times! I got contacted by Joe Carroll (the wonderful videographer who helped make Alexs story for WCAX) today and he said that the WCAX story was sent to CNN. At present, TV stations in Albany, Cleveland and Hawaii have it on their websites!!! I also confirmed that it is being shown in Connecticut as well as being talked about on local Public Radio Stations! Then, his class threw him a Frozen birthday party with a cake!!! A Million bucks is what my boy is feeling like….all because of YOU and all of the generous souls (and there are MANY) in this big wide world! If you happen to know anyone in Idaho, Nebraska, North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming (ONLY 5 LEFT), Alex would LOVE to get a card from these states as they are the only states he has not received a card from! On Monday, November 24, Alex received the following; Mary B from Fremont, NH sent Alex a funny biker frog card! She said she fell in love with Alex’s smile…which made him smile! Gabriel & Hilda G from Tampa, FL sent Alex a birthday card! Alex was very surprised to find a Walmart gift card inside AND a picture of Gabriel & Hilda :) Gabriel & Hilda told Alex that they are both deaf and we were talking about challenges, and how we all can work at overcoming them. It is so amazing the discussions some of the cards lead to! Alex received an alien card postmarked Johnstown, PA! They even included a guide to their own language on Mars. Alex thought it was really funny that I read it in my best alien voice! Paola sent Alex a cute hedgehog card from Riverside, CA! Rosemary B from Chaplin, KY sent Alex a sweet card. Tim & Debbie C (and Batman & Dusty) from Mount Holly, NC sent Alex a cupcake card! Alex received a really neat musical card from Abby S. in Falls Church, VA! It plays “I want to rock and roll all night, and party every day” and Alex was rocking out to it! Abby said that growing up in Guatemala, she found a love of books. Karina sent Alex TWO postcards from Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. Disney is one of Alex’s favorite places too! He loved them both! Ron & Carol in Easley, South Carolina sent Alex a Birthday card! Timothy B & Julia P & Zavender the bunny sent Alex a birthday card. They grew up in VT! Patricia D from South Plainfield, NH sent Alex a Snoopy birthday card! Trena, Kendra, Tyler, Tanner, Steven, Kyle, Sean & Sierra R from Marion, IL sent Alex a birthday card. Alex learned that Trena has SEVEN kids ranging from 25-5. Alex thought that was funny because we have four kids ranging from 26-3 :) They also have dogs, a cat, 3 ducks, 17 chickens & 2 guineas! Alex was really surprised to find a McDonald’s gift card inside!! Larry S. Sent Alex an Audubon Mountain Lion card from Lodi, OH! Sarah at the University of Pennsylvania sent Alex an amazing magical box. I swear, that box just kept filling back up every time we took something out; there was so much in it! Sarah is in college to become a teacher and rounded up so many friends and teachers (well, they can be friends too!) and they all made Alex the most wonderful cards with fun facts about their hometowns! (27 cards by my count!!) But there was MORE! Inside the box, Alex was delighted to find a BATMAN toy that he had to open immediately :) Then there was an amazing activity Atlas that has over 50 pages of activities about each state as well as stickers and lots of wonderful goodies! Sarah should definitely teach 13 year olds because she knows just what they like!!!! Alex received a card from Patricia D in South Plainfield, NJ. The card has lots of animals on it and Alex leaned that there are many wooded areas, farmlands and a beautiful coastline in New Jersey! Randy S from Lynchburg, VA sent Alex a card with a map of the US on the front and a heart where Lynchburg is! They have a national D-Day Memorial in town because Bedford lost the most soldiers on the first day. Randy is a Sergeant with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and Alex was surprised to find a Bedford County Sheriff’s Office explorer Post patch in the card! He wants me to put it on his jacket right away!! Meggan & Hugh (age 3) J sent Alex a sparkly birthday card! I went to law school with Meggan! Alex received a package from Ms. K’s Grade 5 class in Georetown, Ontario CANADA! Alex read every single card and these kids are just SO artistic. Every child had a little picture of themselves on their card so Alex could really identify with who drew it for him! He loved them all!. Ms. K was kind enough to send us some pictures of her class with their cards and Alex thought it was so cool that he was up on the screen in the background, just like he was there with them!!
