ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB News Channel 5) - An Alexandria man is dead following a structure fire early Sunday morning. According to the Rapides Parish Sheriffs Office, deputies and firefighters with Rapides Fire District 2 responded to a structure fire at 2502 Airbase Rd about 6:30 a.m. on November 24th. Upon arrival, fire department personnel were administering CPR to a victim, later identified as Dustin Bordelon, 24 of Alexandria. Bordelon was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Rapides Regional Trauma Center where he was later pronounced dead. According to Rapides Parish Police Juror Ollie Overton, Bordelon was a firefighter for District 2. Information from RPSO said Bordelon was not on duty at the time. Investigators found evidence at the kitchen stove which suggests the victim was likely cooking something on the stove top when the fire broke out. Indications are that the stove was left unattended by the victim, who was found by first responders lying in the hallway, near the living area of the home. There were no working smoke alarms in the home at the time of the fire. State fire investigators determined the fire originated in the kitchen of the single story, three bedroom, brick veneer home.
