ALIGARH November 8: A one-day National seminar on “Krishan Chander, A Century Later: A Reassessment” was organized by Progressive Writers’ Association, Aligarh Unit at the Conference Hall, Faculty of Social Science, Aligarh Muslim University. The inaugural session was presided over by Professor Qazi Abdul Sattar. He threw light on the relevance of Krishan Chander in the Contemporary Globalized world. Noted novelist Mr Iqbal Majeed presented the keynote address and highlighted the socio-political concerns of Krishan Chander’s works. Professor Tasadduq Hussain delivered the welcome address. The seminar focused on how Krishan Chander portrayed and brought to light the exploitative structures of the society. Eminent writers like Professor Iftikhar Alam, Ali Fatimi, Professor Saghir Afrahim, Professor Afshah Zafar, Iqbal Masood, Naeem Kausar, Gautam Sahib, Shakeel Siddique, etc. presented their papers. Dr Sami Rafiq, Associate professor, Department of English, AMU presented her English translation of Krishan Chander’s story ‘Murda Samander’. Dr Mohammad Assim Siddiqui presented the vote of thanks. The seminar was attended by noted writers and research scholars from different parts of India like Bhopal, Allahabad, Lucknow and Kanpur who presented their papers, highlighting the different and diverse aspects of Krishan Chander’s writings.
