ALL INDIA SANTALI EDUCATION CONVENTION-2013 Introduction: In ancient ages all the tribal Communities were known as the Kherwals or the Kherwads. But in present India only the SANTALS call themselves ‘ Kherwals’.They call their Society as the ‘Kherwal Saonta’, Cultural Heritage as ’Kherwadi Lailakchar’ and they call themselves ‘Kherwal Jati’(Kherwal Nation) and ‘Sari Dharam’ is their Religion. Although some of them call themselves as Followers of ‘Sarna Dharom’. There are many modern Kherwal Social thinkers have suggested that the modern Kherwals’ Religion should rightly be called as the ‘Sari-Sarna Dharom’. The modern anthropologists are of the opinion that the Santals belong to the Mundari group, which is Proto- Australoid and Pre-Dravidian. They number about five million and live a large area, mainly in the states of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa and Assam. Many have migrated to the Nepal and to the northern Bangladesh. The Kherwals do own a rich oral tradition and the oldest Cultural Heritage of India, and a strong sense of cultural identity. After quite an eventful movement of all the tribal traditional Social Groups, registered and unregistered Voluntary Organizations, Youth Clubs, Socio-Cultural, Educational & Literary Associations and Kherwal intelligentsia for long 36 yrs. the Santali language (in Ol-Chiki) was included into the list of official languages in the 8th. Schedule of the Constitution of India. Since then the State Govt. of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Orissa has been working to introduce the Primary, Middle and Higher School education in ‘Santali’ to honour the sentiment and continued strife of the tribal masses. But the performance and progress of the ‘Santali School education’ has been quite frustrating and alarming one to the Santali speakers and to the whole tribal Socio-Cultural & Educational Activists of India and abroad. Even the research works in Santali Language fail to enrich the Santali language & Literature and so the contemporary Santali literary works (written in Ol-Chiki and other scripts) did not get the due recognition as well as the proper place by the Indian Academia. The post recognition round the year activities of the concerned Literary Groups & Associations, Leaders of traditional Socio-Religious & Cultural outfits, Social Work Organizations, Clubs, Teaching & Learning Communities of the above mentioned States have become rudderless and their popularity, effectiveness, Mass-Base, etc. has become been poor and poor day by day making all the common Santals broken hearted and visionless. With this background the ‘West Bengal Forum for Safe the Santali Education & Culture’ has already been formed last year by the representatives of all the pro-active and concerned traditional Social Groups, Media men and the registered Voluntary Social Work organizations (NGOs) of different districts. With a view to find out some acceptable and workable answers to the problems and Issues as well as the threatens related to the Santali School education and higher studies, greater Kherwal Society and Nationality this ‘1st. All India Santali Education Convention-2013’ is going to be organized by the West Bengal Forum for Safe the Santali Education & Culture and its Member Organisations. I: Objectives: The ‘1st. All India Santali Education Convention-2013’ aims to: 1. Bring together all the formal and informal concerned and actively functional tribal social Groups, registered Association/ NGOs, Clubs ,Operas, etc. on a common ‘FORUM’/platform to achieve the Goals of this ‘ FORUM’. 2. Acquaint the member representatives with the magnitude of problem and basic issues attached to the ‘Santali Language, Literature, School education and Higher studies, Kherwadi socio-cultural and religious practices, Kherwal Identity, etc.’ of the present Santal as well as of the whole Kherwal society at large in India. 3. Finalize and adopt a ‘Recommendation’ of the Convention for further course for mass actions & redressal activities for next year. 4. Finalize and declare the ‘ Committees of the FORUM’. 5. Finalize and declare the ‘Principles of the ‘FORUM’ and the Principal Rules & Regulations and the Terms & Conditions’ of the FORUM put forward for the Member organizations. 6. Methodology: After a Keynotes Speech on the Convention the 1st. All India Santali Education Convention-2013’will prefer to follow the following ‘Four-Pronged approach’ to attain its main Goal: 1. Workshop no. 1: Category wise Workshop of the representatives attending from the ‘Bharat Jakat Majhi Madwa or from some other social organizations working in the same field will be discussing on the ‘Prescribed Topics/Issues’ under a Moderator. Every Workshop is to develop a Charter of ‘Recommendations’and submit the same to the Main Desk of the Convention. 1. Workshop no. 2 will be for the Representatives falling under the Teaching/Learning Communities who are engaged basically in wide spreading and promotion of Ol Chiki Scripts, Santali School & higher education, etc. like men from the W.B. Santali Teachers’ and Students Association, ASE&CA (WB),AISAWS ( Mr.Shalkhan’s Groups), The Jr.Doctors’ Association, 2. Workshop no. 3 will be for the Representatives of registered Youth Clubs, Authorities of the Santali Private Schools/ the Boarding /Ashrams, Voluntary Social work organizations (NGOs) as the net-work organizations of the ASWASAN (Adibasi Social Workers’ Association for Social Action Net-Work ). 3. Workshop no. 4: It will be for the delegates representing the Writers’ Associations, the Publishers of Santali Books, Santali News papers/Magazines,Drama Operas, Producers of Santali Films, Video & Audio CDs/Cassettes, individual Educationists/ Academicians, - All the ‘Workshop- Recommendations’ are to be received at the Main Desk of the Convention by the 5:00pm before TEA Break. - Then ‘Addition & Alteration’ on each of the read out ‘Workshop Recommendations’ will start in the joint session in Main Convention Hall under the panel of ‘Experts/ Moderators’. - The ‘Addition & Alteration’ session will continue up to 9:00 PM. The whole day’s Program will be winded up with a small cultural session at about 9:30pm. - 2nd. Day activity will start with opening Songs at 8:00am. - Then Last Day’s Achievements will be reviewed by the Main Desk People at 8:30am sharp. - Read out of resting Workshop- Recommendations have to be completed and the Draft ‘Recommendations of the ‘First- Convention-2013’ within11:30am . - Organisational Matters: ‘West Bengal Forum for Safe the Santali Education & Culture’ Final State Committee, the Regional Committees and the District Committees of WBFSSEC to be formed and declared within 1:30pm. - The 2-Day Convention will be ended by 3:00pm on 2nd.Day after LUNCH..!! place:-J.K.NAGAR HIGH SCHOOL,RANIGANJ..!!
