Text: Matthew 13:24-25; Ezra 9:2 Commentary: Matthew 13:24-30; Ezra 9:1-15 DEFINITION; Tares are valueless/unwanted plants which grow and compete dangerously alongside good seeds a farmer sows in his farm land. Tares are destructive, poisonous and attempt to use up the nourishment the good seeds need to grow healthy, mature and to produce good value-added fruits. Spiritual tares, therefore, are the satanic seeds/doctrines which Satan and his agents sow into the vineyard (church) of God, so as to choke and destroy the heavenly life/fruit the holy spirit attempts to produce in the lives of Christian believers. This, as a result, prevents the Christian believers from producing the quality heavenly fruits God expects from them. “Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.” Songs of Solomon 2:15 SCRIPTURAL SEARCH: Isaiah 52;1-11, Ezekiel 13:4-23 LESSON OUTLINES; 1) Jesus is the sower of the good seeds (word of God). He desires this good seeds he sows, to grow and bear good fruits (characters). “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” John 15:5,16 2) His servants who came to report to the master about the evil of the unholy alliance (fellowship) with the evil seeds( tares) that the devil sows are the messengers of Jesus Christ - Apostle, Prophets, teachers, pastors, evangelists, church workers and the general believers in the church. ‘’And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:18-20 SCRIPTURAL SEARCH: John 15:1-5, 16-27 3) The enemy and his messengers who sowed the evil seeds (tares, false doctrines, revelations, visions, prophecies, etc) is the devil. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10 SCRIPTURAL SEARCH: 2 CORINTHIANS 11:12-15 4) The servants he uses to sow these tares are the false pastors and teachers, prophets etc. “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.”2 Timothy 3:13 “ But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”2 CORINTHIANS 11:12-15 SCRIPTURAL SEARCH: 2 Timothy 3:1-13 WHAT ARE TARES? 1. False doctrines/teachings. 2. Worldliness – ungodly dress codes, make-up etc. 3. Observance of demonic feasts under the illusion/cover of Christianity. 4. False revelations/visions. 5. False prophecies. 6. Evil communications. WAY OUT. 1. Continue steadfastly in the Lord’s doctrine. “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. Pray for spiritual revival and transformation in the church of God, governments and communities all over the world. 6.
