ALL OF LIFE is a circle: In the wee mornings hours this weekend, I watched Hour of the Gun (1967), a surprisingly riveting old-school western, in which James Garner played legendary Wyatt Earp, conflicted beyond belief as to whether to serve warrants on those who had coldly killed his brother, or pursue them extra-judicially as a ruthless avenger (Im sure you can guess which route he chose). I remember, even with my red, tired eyes, appreciating the genuine subtle nuances which the talented Garner applied to this troubling role. Then, just a short while later, the national news broke that James Garner, 86, had died of natural causes. He was good man, a good actor, and he sat in the third row behind Dr. King at the I Have A Dream speech. He once made a screenwriter change a character from REP to DEM because my wife would leave me if I played a Republican. :) RIP, Jim, a man who stood by his guns, and stood by his principles. Happy Trails ........
