ALLEGIANCE RACING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP F1 IN SCHOOLS TEAM TO HOLD EXHIBITION FOR SARASOTA MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS Five students who will represent the United States next month at the F1 in Schools World Finals in Texas will hold an exhibition at Brookside Middle School in Sarasota on Thursday, October 3 at 3:15 PM. Allegiance Racing is a team of five Manatee County high school students from Southeast High and Lakewood Ranch High who hold the USA F1 in Schools National Championship title. F1 in Schools is an international technology competition that incorporates every aspect of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. “This is a chance for us to spread the word about this great technology competition. A goal of ours is community outreach to other students to show them the sky is the limit when you set your sights for a big goal. We hope other students may want to get involved in F1 in Schools. Of all of the competitions I have competed in this one brings so many aspects of technology education into one big event,” said Aly Cote, Allegiance Racing Team Manager. Technology Teacher and Technology Student Association (TSA) Advisor Joel Kaplan and his sixth through eighth grade students are hosting the F1 in Schools demonstration at Brookside Middle School. A sixty foot track will be set up where Allegiance Racing team members will run their c02-powered balsa cars capable of running the distance in around one second. F1 in Schools requires the use of computer-aided design and a CNC mill to construct identical miniature Formula 1 cars. F1 in Schools requires teams of 3 to 6 students to design and race their cars, raise funds to compete, market their team, prepare a 20-page design portfolio, deliver a 10 minute verbal presentation and design and construct a large pit display. In Texas Allegiance Racing will compete against 36 other teams from 23 other countries. In 2010 Southeast High’s UNITUS RACING won the World Finals in Singapore.
