ALLIANCE FOR BETTER ZAMBIA (ABZ) PRESS STATEMENT JULY 5, 2014. SCOPE: JUSTICE IREEN MAMBILIMA IS A HEROINE WHO HAS DEMONSTRATED RARE PROFFESSIONAL COURAGE AND ACTIVISM BY CHALLENGING PF SECRETARY GENERAL WYNTER KABIMBA TO EXPLAIN TO THE NATION HIS RECENT REVELATION THAT HE SMUGGLED KENYANS INTO ZAMBIA TO DO PVT FOR PF. The statement by the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia challenging acting President Wynter Kabimba to explain his recent revelation that he smuggled Kenyans into Zambia to do Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) for Patriotic Front (PF) is the most courageous statement I have ever heard since reverting to multi-party democracy in 1991. This statement by Justice Ireen Mambilima has distinguished her as the most independent thinking person among those working in our vital state institutions. It has also made her stand out as a fearless professional who upholds the rule of law and good governance in general. I know that the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) not mentioning the speaker of the National Assembly have no spine to challenge Mr. Wynter Kabimba in the manner Justice Mambilima has done. Her boldness makes me convinced that unlike these others she is prepared to lose her job for standing up for the truth and common sense. If the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Patrick Matibini and others could demonstrate this kind of professional activism, Zambia’s governance performance would change for the better almost immediately. Unfortunately many people who are at the helm of our state institutions are bootlickers who are more concerned about their stomachs and their families. This is the attitude that has killed justice and common sense in our country. It is this betrayal of professionalism and justice that has weakened our state institutions. My prayer is that Zambians would support professional people like Justice Ireen Mambilima who are ready to sacrifice personal gain to speak for the people and advance justice in our country. This is vital because soon we are going to see some sponsored people at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) accusing Justice Mambilima of corruption and demanding for her removal. Such state sponsored elements would be given limitless space on the channels of the state broadcaster, ZNBC and state print media. Such a development should be opposed with the commitment it deserves. I am saying this because I am privy to information to hound Justice Mambilima out of ECZ because she has proved not to be user-friendly to people with evil intentions in the PF government. Fr. Frank Bwalya ABZ PRESIDENT
