ALLY McCOIST admits to being concerned at Rangers’ lack of ruthlessness in front of goal and has told them they must change their ways and start scoring when they’ve the chance. The manager was deeply frustrated after seeing his players lose 2-1 in their Championship opener against Hearts this afternoon at Ibrox. A decent first half showing was a distant memory by the final whistle after Danny Wilson and Osman Sow’s goals gave the Jambos all three points. While it was a classic away performance from Robbie Neilson’s team, they rode their luck a bit at times before the break and Gers should have led at the midway point. The fact they didn’t was something which left McCoist in reflective mood as he conceded his team has made plenty of openings in the last few weeks but not converted many. He said: “That’s very true. We have been creating chances and had numerous ones today which we need to stick in. “We need to start sticking them in now, from our next game, and it’s a concern (that Rangers aren’t). Of course it’s a concern.” Another snagging point for McCoist was the way his side faded and struggled to bounce back from falling behind to Wilson’s header seven minutes into the second period. A recurring theme since the squad returned for pre-season is that one half has generally been better than the other and a good 90-minute show has still to come. In today’s case, the first 45 minutes were certainly better than the second and that’s an issue McCoist is keen to address swiftly. He added: “After Hearts’ first goal we didn’t show any real urgency. We had a lot of the ball and I don’t think they put us under any real pressure territorially after they scored. “But we didn’t do enough when we had the ball in terms of probing and going for an equaliser. We didn’t put nearly enough pressure on their back four of their goalkeeper. “When we got our goal through Nicky Law we were looking forward to the final five minutes but it just fell flat when we switched off.” //☆★☆★☆#STEPHENRFC☆★☆★☆
