ALLY McCOIST is thrilled his Rangers side has already scored 50 league goals this season – but wants the team to continue producing with the same intensity. The Light Blues reached their half century on Monday night when Nicky Clark nodded in the clincher in a 3-0 win over Arbroath at Gayfield. As well as moving Gers 11 points clear of second-placed Dunfermline in League One with a game in hand, the success left them with a positive goal difference of 44 given they’ve conceded only six times. McCoist actually feels his players could have won some games more handsomely than they have. In particular, he feels fixtures in recent weeks where they’ve dominated but only broken through in the second half fall into that category. Nevertheless, he’s delighted with the form his men have shown to go on a 13-match winning streak at the start of their bid for a second successive promotion. McCoist said: “Scoring 50 league goals is a great achievement for the boys, it really is. We just have to keep the finger on them to make sure they keep going in that direction. “Some of our finishing in this first part of the season has been excellent and we’ve been delighted with the number of goals we’ve scored. “If the only thing we’ve got to complain about is not adding to a 3-0 tally like we were on Monday, we’ll be happy with that. “We want our strikers and midfielders to score though so we won’t settle for it because we want to entertain the supporters. “Even in the games we’ve won by smaller margins, we’ve had real opportunities to add to our tallies so we must keep going.” McCoist was happy with the attitude his team showed in freezing conditions at Gayfield two days ago, when it would have been easy for their performances levels to drop. Instead, his players looked fresh as they returned to action 16 days after their previous game against Airdrieonians. Of course, the meeting with Forfar scheduled for November 16 was postponed due to international call-ups and has been rearranged for next month. That wasn’t ideal but with hindsight, McCoist believes the pause in play has allowed the pool to kick on again. Speaking on RangersTV, he added: “It looks as though the international break did the boys some good. After the Airdrie game, we had lots of players carrying knocks. “You could see in the Arbroath game that having a little bit of a rest worked to their benefit. Our lads work really hard in training and their days off are equally important WATP NFSE WDDWA/Neil
