ALPHABET BOOK CHALLENGE You know me—I can’t stop creating - TopicsExpress

ALPHABET BOOK CHALLENGE You know me—I can’t stop creating and thinking of wonderful ideas to make the heart thump—and most of those ideas are inspired by all of YOU. I never dreamed this Challenge would become such a deeply satisfying, enriching and rewarding part of my life, and the joy it brings me, daily, really is overwhelming. The other thing that brings me joy, daily, is children’s picture books (both writing and reading), and one of my picture book pinnacles (yes, we can have lots of pinnacles) is alphabet books. I truly adore them, and have an enormous, treasured collection. So, here is my idea: I would love to start a picture book journey with you all. It will be called the Alphabet Book Challenge. It will be separate to the regular 52-Week Challenge, and all posts on it should be prefaced with ALPHABET BOOK CHALLENGE so we can keep it all together. HOW TO I’m inviting you to submit, to the Challenge Wall, an image that would suit a children’s picture book. – image should be square in shape – any style, any theme, any colours, any medium – any letter of the alphabet, included in the image in some way – MUST be brand new work in entirety, specifically created for this Challenge, and must not be published elsewhere or put online elsewhere – you can submit more than one image – anyone can enter, any age, any nationality – if we are lacking any letters, I will do call-outs for missing letters – please upload to the wall with ALPHABET BOOK CHALLENGE in your text, along with the medium used – make sure your image is large enough to be seen onscreen, ie: at least 160mm high, but DON’T load it large or at high resolution – I will choose the artwork for inclusion and will decide on pieces that I feel ‘mesh’ with the book – no, I cannot be bribed with chocolate, although French champagne and a villa in Italy might sway me – submissions close on the first day of Aussie Spring – 1 September PUBLISHING I’m NOT going to self-publish this book and don’t want it to be self-published, so please know this is not an option. What I’d like to do is to submit it to publishers here in Australia, once the artwork is collated. I would collate, design and edit the book, providing text, as needed. The design, layout and theme/style of the book would be up to me. There is absolutely NO GUARANTEE that this book will be picked up by a publisher, and it could take months or even a year or more to receive any news. I would be responsible for submitting to and liaising with publishers, and would carefully ascertain who to approach. Artists whose work is chosen would NOT earn anything from the book. Even if the book could be contracted to 26 separate people, the potential earnings would be null and void, anyway. This is more about exposure/sharing your stunning work, than earnings (and the thrill of seeing your work in a picture book!). If a publisher does take on the book, you would probably be asked to sign a release for use of your artwork. If the book is published, I would earn 50% of general author royalties as the producer of the book (ONLY to help compensate for the hours I will put into this), and would donate the other 50% to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (Australia). Any questions, please ask! I hope this excites you as much as it does me. The thought of owning a picture book with your illustrations in it is BEYOND exciting!! Tx
