ALS Foundation only uses 20-something percent of profits for charity! I read about it in this Infowars/unheard of political blog article! Slow down, lets take a look at this. First off, people are confusing the ALSA, the ALS Association, with the ALS Foundation, which as far as I can tell isnt a real thing. Theres the ALS Foundation for Life, which is a relatively small ALS charity that I cant find much info on and cant vouch for at all. But the ALSA is the one everyones been donating to, and according to their Charity Navigator page (charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3296) 72.4% of contributions go directly into research/treatment/programs, with 16.5% going to fundraising. Those are pretty solid numbers for such a large charity. So, no, your dollars arent going into some execs pocket, theyre going to a good cause as long as youre sure to keep your donations going towards alsa.org. The chance of someone popping up with a legitimate sounding ALS Foundation name and conning people out of their money is a legitimate possibility, but I havent seen any confirmed cases of it. So, be aware and be informed. Also note the Infowars is a complete joke when it comes to journalism. Share with anyone whos fallen victim to this confusion.
