ALS is terrible, that we can all agree on, and the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ has done an incredible job of raising both money and awareness. Kudos to all that have participated! As you can probably assume, I have been nominated for said challenge that I was *SO* hoping to avoid by continuing to fly under the radar. (To the point that I was consciously NOT ‘Liking’, ‘Sharing’ nor commenting on the flood of posts appearing in my FB feed…) As I said, it is now my turn. Those of you that really know me also know that I am many things and being conventional is NOT one of them. Lucky for me, and in anticipation of the inevitable, I have spent the last week contemplating a personally appropriate (and 501-3c approved) response. THEREFORE, I SHALL: Donate to MusiCares because it provides emergency healthcare to those in my line of work. You ‘Civilians’ love live music, but fail to realize that the vast majority (like, 95%+) of us, myself included, lack healthcare of any kind. Challenge my friends in ‘the biz’ to do the same. And without the silly ice dumping because ice water on the deck is nothing but a safety hazard. Ice belongs in post-gig cocktails and bus coolers… (What are you - a new guy? WTF???) Nominate my sister, Deana and niece Lexie while simultaneously exempting them because the ALREADY donated to MusiCares for their admittance to Warp Tour in MKE. (Love you both! oxoxox) Agree to shotgun a Natty Ice if Julie Woodall (the one that called me out with a LAME excuse about not having a video) if she reposts this…. To sum up: MusiCares (and other non-profits like it) are positioned to DO MORE GOOD. RIGHT NOW. Money is tight for everyone. ALS has raised over $45M and counting. For research. I prefer MY hard earned dollars doing work NOW….
