ALS touched my life several years ago when someone very special in my life was diagnosed, and ultimately succumbed to the disease. Watching what Fred went through, and what his loved ones went through, was heart wrenching. So, I have always supported the ALS Association without being challenged to do so. These days, however, the majority of my charitable donations go to MS research. Why? Because not one, but TWO, very special people in my life are dealing with this disease everyday. So, once a year, I send out a plea to all of you, my FB friends, asking for even a small donation when I am fundraising for Walk MS. Most years, a couple of you will support my efforts. I am always incredibly grateful for your donations, because every dollar is a step closer to a cure for MS. Mike Rowe makes a very good point that I have thought every time Ive watched one of your Ice Bucket Challenge videos: Will you be just as willing to donate to another charity when you arent publicly challenged to do so? I hope that next spring, when I send out my request for donations, you will ALL accept my challenge to donate to the MS Society. I also challenge everyone of you on my friends list to donate each and every time you are asked by someone else on your friends list, regardless the cause. If they are your friend and they are asking you to donate to a cause near and dear to them, then please consider supporting that cause as easily as you supported ALS through the Ice Bucket Challenge. I dedicate this post to 4 very special people: - My best friend, Vanessa Exelby, and Chuck Moss, a friend so dear it is hard sometimes to put into words...Both of them do battle with MS each and everyday, as they have for the past 4 years, and will for the rest of their lives unless a cure is found. - Elizabeth Parker Ferguson and Sara Parker, who know all too well the pain of losing someone to ALS. I am still grateful to you both for letting me know and love Fred!
