AM I WRONG? Wednesday 7:45a on Country 600 CKAT. We have a housing problem in North Bay. The problem is new homes being built are just too expensive for 1st time home buyers or seniors looking to downsize. So when a report came down last week recommending an increase to development charges I was glad to see the Mayor step up and say that was the wrong way to go. In fact Mayor Al went even further recommending developers pay less to the city coffers to build smaller, more affordable homes as a way to encourage just that. You see when a builder is paying a fee of nearly 10k whether he builds a 1500 sq. ft. home or one thats 3000 sq. ft. which one do you think hes going to opt for? I can only hope the rest of council sees it the way our Mayor does so when the vote to update the bylaw in September comes, so will the right decision. AM I WRONG? Andy Wilson.
