AMD readies ‘Trinidad’ graphics processing unit Advanced Micro Devices is preparing to launch a new graphics processing unit that is code-named “Trinidad”. The new GPU will be aimed at the mainstream market and will replace AMD Radeon R9 270-series “Curacao” graphics processor. Nothing particular is currently known about the “Trinidad” graphics processing unit except its code-named, reports Chinese VR-Zone web-site. It is logical to expect the new GPU to be based on the GCN 1.2 architecture and feature a new multimedia engine with hardware decoder of H.265/HEVC video. The new AMD “Trinidad” will replace code-named Radeon R9 270 “Curacao Pro” graphics solution with 1024 stream processors. While specifications of the Trinidad GPU are unclear, it is highly likely that it will feature more than 1280 stream processors. Graphics adapters based on the “Trinidad” graphics processors will emerge on the market in March, according to the report.
