AME ZION BOARD OF BISHOPS OUTRAGED OVER MICHAEL BROWN KILLING TO HOLD RALLY, CANDLELIGHT VIGIL & MARCH IN FERGUSON, MONDAY (TONIGHT) AT 7 PM In response to a dictum from the Board of Bishops of the AME Zion Church, local and national clergy of this denomination, will hold a rally at Wellspring United Methodist Church, 33 South Florissant Rd., Ferguson, MO 6135 a 7 pm tomorrow, Monday, October 13, 2014. The rally Midwest Episcopal District Presiding Prelate Bishop Darryl B. Starnes will be keynote speaker. This event will announce the AME Zion Church’s official stance on the police killing 18 year old Michael Brown, and make clear the “outrage” felt by the church body and its leadership. The Board of Bishops’ dictum stipulates the following (excerpts): “We share the outrage expressed by people of good will across the nation that, once again, parents are burying a child as the result of gun violence. The tragic killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO, just weeks after he graduated from High School, by a police officer who confronted Michael and his friend for merely walking in the street, grieves us all. The fact that the encounter ended in the death of another unarmed black man at the hands of a police officer is a far too familiar story.” Invited guests include: Bishop Darryl B. Starnes, AME Zion Church Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, AME Church Rev. Dr. Anthony Witherspoon, Washington Metropolitan AME Zion Church Rev. Kenneth E. McKoy, Progressive AME Zion Church Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver Congressman William Lacy Clay Rev. Scott Moore Father Steve Gilgum State Representative Tommie Pierson Rev. Kevin M. Kosh, Union Memorial United Methodist Church Rev. Richard Dalton, Southern Christian Leadership Conference Rev. Dr. Willis Johnson, Pastor, Wellspring United Methodist Church Following the rally, Bishop Starnes will lead attendees in a candlelight vigil and march to join protesters in downtown Ferguson at the police station.
