AMEN, ASHE, THATS IT, DOXOLOGY, GET RIGHT CHURCH AND LETS GO HOME! I am DONE with a chapter submission: Existentialist Transvaluation and Hip-Hop’s Syncretic Religiosity. Thank you Monica Miller for the opportunity and Martin Lukk for the feedback and editing. Thusly, Of course, we must ever remember that, whether we are talking about the Hip-hop generation, Hip-hop as a culture, or the Black church in America, monolithic understandings of each leave the critic holding a bag brimming with contradictions and inconsistencies. Hip-hop brushes up against the divine in a myriad of ways—not all of them deep enough to merit critique; at the same time, Hip-hop and the Black church are diverse and ever-changing social and communal bodies. Still, there are, as I have tried to show, trends and recurring themes that reward a close examination of Hip-hop’s role in shaping the religious understanding(s) of Hip-hop.- Julius Bailey (2014)
