I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4, the Holy Bible). -ooo- THANKS BUT NO THANKS TO CHED PRIORITY COURSES: “CHED identifies `priority courses’ to fill needs of workforce” was the headline of a major Manila newspaper on Wednesday, August 07, 2013. This news item then listed the supposedly priority courses that are aimed at ensuring employment for the Filipino youth after graduation from college. Thanks, but no thanks to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), for these “priority courses” will not really help our countrymen attain a successful and prosperous life. In fact, the only thing these courses would do is to prepare the youth for more overseas work. Consequently, these kinds of courses would in fact ensure the continuing slavery, subjugation and abuse of our people by foreign masters. They would also assure the continued destruction of Filipino families as a result of the inevitable separation of the family members. In short, the priority courses of CHED are misguided and, if the truth be told, shamefully anti-Filipino. -ooo- CHED MISSING OUT ON WHAT TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN: In all these, CHED is missing out on what should really be taught to our children who are fortunate enough to pursue college or tertiary education, either by sheer ignorance, or by deliberate anti-spiritual designs among many of them. Yes, I can concede that there is a need to teach science and math courses to our children. And, yes, I can agree that the Filipino youth must be prepared in a way that employment is made available to them after spending some time in our colleges and universities. Indeed, this was what the CHED had been doing ever since its creation---science, math and employment had been its focus and priorities. But then, all throughout, notwithstanding such sustained focus on these priorities, our countrymen have remained generally mired in poverty and difficult lives, proving indubitably that there is more to life than science and math and employment. Consequently, CHED must also endeavor to instill something more, among succeeding generations of Filipinos. -ooo- “SOMETHING MORE” IN RP EDUCATION: What is this “something more”? I am referring to the deepening of the Filipino youth’s spirituality, no matter what religious affiliation they may have. I am sure that, in any religion or spiritual group, there are teachings that highlight what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, excellent and praiseworthy. These are things that, side by side with science, math and employment, should be taught our children. CHED must remember that it is necessary to train the child in the way that he should go, and he will never depart from it when he grows old. It is likewise an imperative of the times to teach children in the training and instruction of God, no matter what they or their elders conceive God to be, or whatever they may call Him. CHED must endeavor to teach Filipino children that there is a God whom we must all love with all our hearts, all our minds, all our souls and all our strength, and whom we must listen to and obey all the time. CHED must understand that this is the only kind of educational training that will lift the Filipino nation from its present general poverty and desperation.
