AMERICA IS A SECULAR NATION. We must distinguish between Official and popular. Those who say America is Christian can never be allowed to apply it to the level of Law, Government. Rather, the only sense we are Christian is either culture, or heritage (the sense of Western Civilization). Or our discovery (columbus came in Jesus name). OR ... they are referring to the sphere of society, not Government. Religion emerges naturally out of family and tribe and clan. It is a hearth and home thing. A social and village thing. Anthropology tries to elucidate the gemeinschaft ties of sacred coming together ... admitting that as humans, we are no different than primitives. Our Constitution is godless -- so officially we are, indeed, SECULAR. Never forget the witch hunts were a Christian thing.
