AMFacilities Tasks FG on Sustainable Framework For Nigerian Economy The Managing Director of Alpha Mead Management Services Limited, Engr. Femi Akintunde, has urged the federal government to develop sustainable and long-term frameworks that will help consolidate Nigeria’s economy as the largest in Africa and the 26th globally. Speaking at this year’s annual Facility Management Roundtable, held recently in Lagos, Engr. Akintunde warned that the government must learn from the mistakes of the past. He described the lack of sustainable and long-term frameworks as a major setback to the growth of the Nigerian economy in the past. He said: “We cannot afford to be caught in the same web again. We need to put in place sustainable and long-term frameworks that will help the Nigerian economy. If we can get these two crucial factors right, then our economy will witness rapid growth in the nearest future.” Akintunde further commended the Federal Government for the significant progress in infrastructural develoment, citing public private partnership (PPP) initiatives as the impetus for the improvement. “We also commend Government’s approach to the revival of critical infrastructure, especially in power and rail. Government must also be praised for its industrial revolution framework, which has recently midwived the first made-in-Nigeria automobiles. This is why we must task government not to relent in its efforts to continually engage the private sector.” Also speaking at the event, Mr. Shina Oliyide, General Manager, Technical, Alpha Mead Facilities and Management Services Limited (AM Facilities), canvassed for Nigeria to establish global standards and provide guidelines for Green Building in Nigeria. He said: “Green building is the standard of tomorrow’s built environment. Nigeria needs to join the global initiative to establish the required standards and guidelines for Green Building and its development in the country. Reducing operational cost across the life cycle of a building is a major requirement for this, which can be achieved through greener business practices driven by increasingly prescriptive government regulations.”
