AMOSUN INAUGURATES TASUED GOVERNING COUNCIL Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has inaugurated the Governing Council of the State-owned Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, with a charge on all members to see their appointment as a call to serve. Governor Amosun, while inaugurating the 18-member council chaired by the former Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, in his Oke-Mosan office, Abeokuta, said the appointment was a demonstration of the present administration’s resolve to restore the institution to its glorious past. He, however, enjoined the council members to justify the confidence reposed in them by bringing their rich pedigree to bare in taking the institution to an enviable height, saying that, I have no doubt that the team will perform creditably well. I want to congratulate you on this appointment but you have to realise the enormity of the assignment. I expect you to be innovative and adaptive, making bricks without straw, if need be. You must abide by the oath of office and justify the confidence reposed in you by the state government and the good people of the state. I have no doubt in my mind that this team will perform creditably well because you all have towering credentials and individual merits which qualify each of you to be members of this Council. Thus, I want to enjoin you to see this responsibility as a call to service. You should realise that your contributions will to a large extent determine the future of this institution. I dont know of any assignment that can be more challenging than a call to shape the future of our children. Be assured that your performance in this assignment will be judged by posterity, Amosun said. The States helmsman, who emphasized the position of the Gateway State in the educational history of the nation as the capital of tertiary institutions, noted that it hosts the highest number of higher schools of learning in the country with ten state, three federal and nine private owned institutions. While thanking the people of the State for their support, Governor Amosun assured that his administrations commitment to the development of all sectors of the states economy remained unwavering, insisting that efforts are in top gear to make graduates from the State the types that employers of labour will be searching for. Responding, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Prof. Bamiro, who affirmed that the appointment was his first opportunity to serve the State, commended the government for the composition of the council which he noted was made of people with varied experience. The council has the institutions Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Oluyemisi Obilade, Engineer Afolabi Sorinmade, Dr. (Mrs.) Milikat Salaam, Hon. Kunle Elegbede, Comrade Tunde Oladunjoye, High Chief Afolabi Ibirinde and Chief Derin Adebiyi as members. Also to serve on the council are Permanent Secretaries of Ministries of Finance and Education, two members of Senate and two members of the congregation elected by the congregation as well as a graduate of the university elected by the alumni and a representative of the National University Commission.
