AMSA coordinated the rescue of five men from their overturned catamaran yesterday near Queenslands Fraser Island. Yesterday afternoon, AMSA detected a distress beacon and tasked the RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter from Bundaberg, a Water Police vessel from Hervey Bay and a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-130J Hercules to respond. The Hercules aircraft was the first on scene followed by the helicopter. All five men were winched to safety by the helicopter and taken to Orchid Beach on Fraser Island. The link below shows GoPro footage from the rescue provided by RACQ CareFlight Rescue.
