AMSTERDAM STAFF BAND Facebook bulletin 053 – September 2014 NEW SEASON The summer is barely over and early September saw the Amsterdam Staff Band get together for its first rehearsal after the holiday break. The first activity is to welcome the new Chief Secretary on September 5th! NEW MEMBERS While ‘Major Mieke’, our previous Executive Officer enjoys a well-deserved retirement (although you never know with her, as she is always busy), we are happy to announce the arrival of her successor, Major Germen Stoffers. We are also very pleased to welcome Robert Wolf (back) in the cornet section. Robert was a member of the band some years ago and has helped the band out the past 6 months. We are truly delighted that he accepted the invitation to stay! He comes from the Rotterdam East Corps, where he plays cornet in the band and cornet/flugel/trumpet in the praise band. So a real multi-instrumentalist. He will play 1st cornet in the ASB. Another well-meant welcome is for Gerard van der Staaij who will replace Alexander Kruidhof. Gerard is from the Den Helder Corps and is the elder brother of former staff bandsman Rob van der Staaij. The third new addition is Joël Koerts who will be the new bumper up to Principal Euphonium Michel Rosenquist, as replacement for Simon Smedinga. Arend Pietersen (solo cornet) has decided to step down from the band due to personal circumstances. We thank Arend for his valuable contributions and hope he will be able to rejoin the band sometime in the future! NEW LIVE RECORDING The recording of Premier Brass 2014 means the fifth CD of this concert series. The guest band this year was current Dutch Champion Brass Band Schoonhoven and the guest soloist was Steven Mead (Euphonium) with an unexpected guest appearance of his wife, with whom he played a flawless spectacular duet. The recording will be released in the coming period. More information will be here when it is available. NEW PUBLICATION The ASB is also excited and proud that ‘Tu Es Petrus’, which we recorded on our 2012 ‘Escape Velocity’ recording will be published in April 2015 by SP&S. Congratulations to the arranger, Bandmaster Olaf Ritman for the publication of this fine piece! (for those interested; it was recently recorded again by the International Staff Band on their new recording ‘Inclusion’ - worldofbrass/acatalog/25392.html , also ‘The Long Cloud of Witnesses’ is on this recording. This piece was written especially for the ASB and is also on our ‘Escape Velocity’ recording!). Thank you to all who click on the ‘Like’ button of these Amsterdam Staff Band bulletins. The band continues to be encouraged by the interest shown in it via the Facebook group confirming their readership by clicking the ‘Like’ button. So, if you have read this bulletin, we’d be delighted to receive your ‘Like’!
