AN ADDRESS DELIVERED BY HIS ROYAL MAJESTY,ALAIYELUWA OBA (DR.) SIR MICHAEL ADENIYI SONARIWO,CON,FCA,KJW,ERINJUGBO II, THE AKARIGBO AND THE PARAMOUNT RULER OF REMO KINGDOM AT THE 30TH SAGAMU DAY GRAND RALLY ON SATURDAY 25TH OCTORBER,2014 The Chief Guest of Honour His Excelleclncy Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,GCFR,The President and Commander-in-Chief,Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency The Governor of Ogun State Senator,Ibikunle Amosun,CON,FCA, Members of the Ogun State Executive Council, Members of the National Assembly and the Ogun State House Assembly, Chairman and Members of Sagamu Local Government, The Chairman of this occation Alhaji Ladi Ogunneye, The Chief Launcher of today Alhaji Aliko Dangote GCON, My Lords Spiritual and Temporal Distinguished Otunbas and Chiefs, The President and Executive members of the prestigious Sagamu Development Association, Chairman and members of the 30th Sagamu Day Festival Organising Committee, Gentlemen of the Press, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen. In a very loud voice, I give praise, adoration and thanks to the Almighty God, the giver of all good things for giving me this unique privilege, honour and opportunity to be here today to address this August gathering at this 30th Sagamu Day Grand Rally. As Christian will usually sing O for a thousand tongues to sing my great redeemers praise,the glories of my God and King,the triumphs of His Grace(verse 1 of the Methodist English Hymn Book Hymn 1) My praise to God today are two folds. Firstly, many of you would have heard that I was for some months very sick. I recovered and gain my health by the special Grace and Mercy of God. Secondly, by the special Grace of God, I will be twenty-five years(25yrs) old on throne in 2015. I have witnessed as today twenty-four celebrations of Sagamu Day. At the beginning of my reign,prominent Obas like the Ooni of Ife and the Sultan of Sokoto were invited as special Guests. In 2008 five Executive Governors from different part of our country Nigeria were also invited as Special Guests of Honour. Todays event is special, the Head of State,President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Googluck Ebele Jonathan,GCFR,is the Chief Guest of Honour. I praise and thank God for giving me the opportunity to. Be present here today. I also request you al to give me your tongues to praise the Great Jehovah. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the new energetic president of the Sagamu Development Association Otunba (Engr.) Olumuyiwa Sonuga for his powerful and eloquent address to this gathering and the great work he has been carrying on with his resource and time on his assumption of office as the President of Sagamu Development Association. I am so very much impressed. Let me once again take this opportunity to welcome most heartily all of you and our distinguished guests who have put aside other pressing engagements in order to grace this occasion with their presence. I hereby welcome heartily His Excellency the Executive Governor of Ogun State Senator,Ibikunle Amosun. There is no doubt tha he is indeed contributing immensely to the socio-economic development of Ogun State in particular and Nigeria in general. Sagamu people are seeing the work he has been doing here in our society. Like Oliver Twist, we are requesting for more. I particularly welcome our Chief Guest of Honour, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Apart from passing by our borders, this is the first time he has paid us a visit. We want to feel more of Federal presence in Remoland. I have no doubt in my mind that now that he has started, he will continue to deal with us. I also have a special word of welcome to both our Chairman of this occasion Alhaji Ladi Ogunneye and the Chief Launcher Alhaji Aliko Dangote. As you donate generously towards the growth of our Community, the Almighty Father will bless you more abundantly. Having said my welcomes, I will like to state categorically,more especially now that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is in our midst, that we associate ourselves here in Remo with economic and social development being propergated in the country. We realise that the creation of more state in Nigeria will give room to rapid development. This is one of the reasons why Remo IS NOT opposing the creation more State within the present Ogun State. WE HOWEVER OPPOSE LOOSING OUR IDENTITY AND TO GO ONCE MORE INTO THE SLAVERY ENCOUNTER WITHIN THE FORMER IJEBU PROVINCE. OUR SLOGAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN IF YOU NAME A NEW STATE IN OUR AREA AND CALL IT IJEBU STATE, THE CAPITAL OF SUCH A STATE MUST BE WITHIN REMO -PREFERABLY BETWEEN IKENNE AND ODOGBOLU. Remo people are not at all the enemies of Progress. In order to inject more spirit of oneness among Remo people, the ambition is being nursed that we will in the very near future be. Celebrating Remo Day when the idea has been properly developed, the so called other Days being celebrated as at now will give way to a united Remo Day Let me take this opportunity to congratulate all the participants in todays event very warmly. Let us look forward to do many things our development programmes by ourselves. For the past fourty years, we have been benefiting from Donations received from our friends for our development. I know of a community which has progressively been developing its area without any external aids. Let us make enquiry about such a community, understudy them and rightly follow their foot prints. God in his infinite mercy will help us. After all, God helps those who help themselves. The Sagamu Development Association appears to me to be feeling that Sagamu Day Celebration is only baby. Those who feel so are wrong. Please re-examine the scope of your activities and work harder. Your Excellency, our Special Guest, Ladies and Gentlemen, I thank you for your kind attention.
