AN ELECTIONEERING MANIFESTO BY DENNIS ADU-YEBOAH, AN ASPIRANT FOR THE HILLA LIMANN HALL JCR SPORTS SECRETARY POSITION INTRODUTION Mr. Chairman, the Electoral Commissioner, the executives of the JCR, invited guests, members of the JCR, Fellow aspirants, ladies and gentlemen: I deem it prudent and an honour to stand before you to read my manifesto and to solicit for your vote for the enviable position of Hilla Limann Hall JCR Sports Secretary for the 2015/2016 academic year. I am Dennis Adu-Yeboah, a level 300 Psychology and Philosophy student of this great institution and a resident of this noble hall. Mr. Chairman, my reasons for vying for this position are very tangible and varied. My personal qualities compelled me to vie for this enviable position. I am specifically referring to my high sense of discipline, dedication, hard work and willingness to serve the good people of this hall with all diligence. Mr. Chairman, before I advance on to spell out my intentions for this noble hall when I am voted into office as the sports secretary, I would like to thank all for attending such an august gathering. MISSION My mission is to create an enabling environment for effective development and promotion of sports in the hall to enhance the fitness, health, well-being, and holistic development of students in this hall through proactive sports management. I also seek to make sports attractive for all, create awareness about sports and make Hilla Limann Hall an active and winning sporting hall. INITIATIVES I intend when giving the mandate, to build upon the already laid foundation of my predecessor and add other things to it. Some of the initiatives I will bring on board will be to; Ensure active participation of Hilla Limann Hall in most of the inter halls sporting activities. Establish a debaters club in the hall. Increase the level of female participation in sports in the hall by building female teams for at least 3 disciplines. Advocate for rooms to be allocated to freshmen who are admitted into the university through the UG-PASS policy so that they can represent the hall during sporting activities. Will ensure that all sports related information is publicized well on the common noticeboard and social media Ensure that lights on the basketball court are fixed and working properly. Ensure that sportsmen and women are well motivated. Seek to the establishment of the chit system of taking incentives. Advocate for the allocation of special rooms for coaches and captains of various teams in the hall. Ensure that medical kit is available during all the games. Organize health and fitness walk at least once every semester. VALUES Teamwork (we work collaboratively and we work hard in a cooperate spirit) only teamwork will make the dream work. Excellence (we strike balance, we commit ourselves to our sporting endeavors while recognizing the importance of academic pursuits, working to achieve optimum outcome and pursuing greatness) this is what we call intellectual sports. Determination (the can do spirit) Taking inspiration from the motto of this hall, which is ’wutiti ni zomo’ meaning truth is noble, I believe when we all decide to work in truth and endorse me as the JCR sports secretary, we will all witness a new dimension of intellectual sports in this hall. I will leave you with this quote by – Arnold Palmer “Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you.”………….make an effort today to do sports!!!
