AN ELEGY FOR THE LIVING I looked up into the dark night and watched the stars blink out as the moon began to weep; an icy wind wrapping around me, numbing my trembling fingers and turning my skin to leather. (Where have you gone my beautiful daughters? Did you set sail for some undiscovered exotic land? Did handsome young men steal your innocent hearts with charming, disarming smiles? Did you hear some secret song riding across a warm breeze that quickened your blood, sending you floating into the sky where the birds serenade and the clouds laugh and roll?) I turned away from the winter wind, my eyes filled with darkness and my throat stuffed with loss as the blackness began to drip, shrouding my head in sorrow and driving two burning thorns deep into my aging heart. ~ Kenneth N Cook
