AN EXCHANGE WHICH FOLLOWED after I posted this pic on my wall to state the fact that we do not live in a post-racial society: A conservative fb friend: I bet the person wearing the shirt is a Democrat. My husband: I find it absolutely incredible that the only way that conservatives can deal with their movements latent and blatant racism is to accuse liberals of a frame job. Is it so inconceivable that their are actual racists in the conservative movement? I know you guys like to still call yourselves the Party of Lincoln, but Isnt it also the party of Strom Thurmond, Jessie Helms and Nixons Southern Strategy? The only way to repair the damage done to the Republican Party by people like the one wearing this shirt is to first acknowledge that there is a problem. Then, like Hercules cleaning out the Augean Stables, get rid of the troublemakers and the Neanderthals who are dragging the Party down. Otherwise, the shit just keeps piling up higher and higher until everybody suffocates from the stink.
