AN EXPERIENCE I OBSERVED THAT I KNEW WAS NOT OF GOD… As I observed some individuals in a church “behaving” as if inebriated, laughing hysterically and falling down on the floor, completely out of control, I wondered to myself, “What spirit is this?” Upon close examination of the scriptures, I discovered that this “behavior” I observed was not of God. Nothing like it is even recorded in scripture. I believe they were basing what they were doing on Acts 2:13 in error, which says, “But others mocking said, they are filled with new wine.” their reaction is explained in verses 5-6. HOLY LAUGHTER, SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT OR DRUNK IN THE SPIRIT… THIS IS NOT OF GOD! The Bible tells us to “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise, making the best use of the time because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is and do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:15-18. So, to behave as if you are out of control and not sober, is not of God. The Bible tells us this: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, SELF-CONTROL; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, and envying one another –Galatians 5:22-26. REMEMBER… * A person without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls -Proverbs 25:28. * As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry -2 Timothy 4:5. * Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ -1 Peter 1:13. * Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world -1 John 4:1. TEST ALL THINGS… but test everything; hold fast what is good -1 Thessalonians 5:21.
