AN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT?A SINFUL PROJECT. The issue of constructing an international airport in Mandera resurfaced yet again today.An extract from a post by one Maad Sheikh Abdiaziz described the visit to the site by aviation specialist to lay down foundation.This is a callous adventure in which the common mans feelings on the ground has been over-shadowed by the county governments big man syndrome.The project is a voodoo economic strategy which is comparable to putting the cart before the horse.The baloney from Maads post is presumably to open up Mandera to international investors.When investing in such huge projects,one needs to rationalise its impact.What products can Mandera offer to the worlds market to warrant such an expensive project?Does Mandera have huge market to absorb products that would be shipped in?Wajir international airport lies in desolate.Why dont learn from them? We are in a county whose 90% population live below the UN set poverty line.Only yesterday,newspapers were awash with report that Mandera contribute 80% to national poverty index.Our county has zero centimetre of tarmac.Traditional healers provides better health services than our hospitals.We have zero food security policies.During the dry spell, carcass lit our ways.During rainy episodes,our villages are submerged as it happened last night in Fincharo village of Mandera.No drainage systems.The problems are unaccountable.Live of university educated economic advisers, where is the common sense when one proposes a luxurious project in the midst of such problems?Common sense is no longer common among our political class.There is a serious shortage of common sense and insight.Somebody to export common sense for us...hata ile ya Made in China
