AN OPEN LETTER/ADVICE TO MY DEAR TOWN Since it is a season of open letters/advice, I think it’s time I penned down something in the current situation of our dear town, It goes beyond my imagination to see all these happenings, Oko as a town is known for their spirit of oneness, I can remember vividly how we use to fight for one another in other towns especially during “Oso Achukwu & Oso Mmuonwu” but today the reverse is turning out to be the case. That makes me to ask the question why? Politics is tearing my dear town apart; please let us not give that a chance. If I finish my write-up without commenting on the issue of youths, OPU and the Rector, the essay will be much more incomplete, therefore I give my comments The programs of the youth is for the unity of our town, what I termed a loop hole to the side of the executive arm of OYM is their inability to converge congress to give the members account of what they have done and their future plans, It pains me that it is only when there is a soar situation that a congress is converged. Accountability and transparency of a government is their ability to give their members a clear view of what is on ground, thereby making them very active in the government. As they say “If you are not informed you must be deformed” On the other hand OPU should equally play a fatherly role to help us achieve our goal as a town, even in the Nigerian constitution there is a room for fair hearing, no town moves ahead without proper integration of all the bodies that makes up that town, Let us move in the spirit of “onye aghana nwanne ya” As for the Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Although I am not his student or worker but am yet to see what he has done contrary to what is obtainable in other higher institutions across the nation, He have changed the face of Oko poly in terms of infrastructure and Technology, What remained a nightmare to me is the current face-off between the rector and Ada-Oko but I want to believe that dialogue is the only lasting solution to any quarrel, I want to believe that its time Oko as a community make round table discussion with the school management. All these things make me to wonder if we still have leaders of thought in our dear town because there is an adage that says “Okenye anaghi ano n’ulo Ewu amuo an ogbili” or have our elders decided to sit and watch our town’s image destroyed, I think that will be very bad for us as a town because people are watching At last, Advice is a very important tool in achieving our goal as youths, OPU and Oko in general Onye aduoro ya kwere No man is an island, Two wrongs can never make a right, Let all sheath their sword let’s make Oko a better place. I love my town, I love Oko………………………….Onye aghana Nwanne ya Onyekwelu Michael
