AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BENIGNO AQUINO III Dear Mr. President I still have your back, when and where your actions need defending, against the malicious who confuse the ignorant; when and where your actions are defensible-- not when you played offense against the SC when it spoke against the DAP, which is not to say that I disagreed with the DAP in the first place; not when you chose to keep Butch Abad under the strained logic that firing him was to assign to him a wrong and I cannot accept the notion that doing right by our people is a wrong-- which is not to say that I doubt Abads integrity, which I dont. I just doubt his political smarts, i.e. tendering an irrevocable resignation should have done the trick. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made on the altar of political necessity so that you may save much-needed political capital that would allow you to pursue the needed reforms-- So again, when and where you need defending, I speak my mind, at least in the little circles I move in. I still trust you. I still trust that you have our very best interests in mind. But your good faith may be standing on its last leg. The sand in the hourglass is running thin and so much remains to be done. When your voice cracked in the course of your speech my eyes watered. The job is thankless and so much effort produces so little. I do not have much left to say beyond this except to note that we need to keep pushing forward, to stand for our certainties and lead others to difficult places, places unpopular, unlit and unknown. And finally, to handhold where it is needed, and it is needed, always.
