Trauma, stroke causes neck pains, back aches, paralysis as symptoms of major injuries. Paralysis Limb involvement affecting support and movement need treatment through a comprehensive rehabilitation program, both physical and occupational therapy. Disabled also suffer from multiple illnesses. These conditions are undergone by ordinary persons and Buddhist Monks as well. Most of the Monks are destitute without proper personal care when hospitalized. Engaging a private attendant involve payment which is unaffordable to Monks. The necessity has arisen to provide indoor medical treatment facilities mainly for Monks at their old age. Therefore establishment of a separate Centre for Medical treatment, Rehabilitation and Meditation for elders, youth/ children with Disabilities including Buddhist Monks, take precedence in our future plans. STATEMENT OF NEED Centre for the Disabled is the solution to cater to their medical needs. This attribute in fulfillment of health, social and religious obligation of meritorious act. We are made aware of the desire from the disabled patients mainly from sick Buddhist monks and elders to obtain assistance of trained medical attendants to look after their needs during sick period. The need has arisen to find a solution to overcome this grave problem in implementing a project in view of the aforesaid background. Therefore the requirement of a land with an existing building or a buildable land is most envisaged to materialize this project. We are unable to expand our area of charitable activities in the absence of a permanent building with residential, storage and office facilities. Need has arisen to procure a land within the Colombo District in Sri Lanka for the implementation of the proposed project. ACTIVITIES PERFORMED During year 2009 to 2012 Foundation has made gratuitous donations of 1143 items of Medical Appliances, Assistive Devices, Aids to Mobility Challenged Persons, and financial assistance for education and self employment, Clothes and spectacles etc., for vision impaired persons throughout the Island, worth SL. Rs: 2,004,205.00 (US $ 16,033 ) free of charge, against Financial and Material donations received from Foreign and Local philanthropists. Expansion on indoor medical treatment activities needed to be considered for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities in Sri Lanka, irrespective of nationality, cast, creed and religion.
