AN OVERVIEW OF THE 5th “QUANG NAM HERITAGE FESTIVAL” – 2013 “The 5th "Quang Nam Heritage Festival" celebrates ASEAN countries’ world cultural heritage, especially the heritage from all over the country of Vietnam. The focus of this "Quang Nam Heritage Festival" is the ASEAN Cultural Heritage Festival, the 3rd Vietnam International Choir Competition - Hoi An 2013 and the 3rd Miss Ethnic Vietnam 2013. In the framework of the Festival, there will be impressive art programs; exciting sports activities; exhibits of natural and cultural heritage of Vietnam and ASEAN countries; workshops on cultural heritage conservation, tourism promotion and investment attraction; activities to introduce Vietnamese cuisine and Quang Nam’s dishes, and the tourism products of Quang Nam province... The 5th “Quang Nam Heritage Festival” 2013 is an event commemorating 10 years of the UNESCO Convention for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. The opening ceremony of the 5th "Quang Nam Heritage Festival” - 2013 will be held at 8:00 pm on 22nd of June, 2013 at Hoi An Theatre. The heart of the opening ceremony is a unique art program combining ASEAN countries’ cultures and representatives of the cultural characteristics of Vietnam, with the participation of international choir groups, especially that of folk artists performing the traditional art forms recognized by UNESCO as the intangible cultural heritage of oral traditions and expressions. The program will be broadcast live on VTV. The 3rd Vietnam International Choir Competition - Hoi An 2013 will be held from 19th to 22nd of June at Hoi An Beach Resort. The competition is co-organized by Interkultur and the People’s Committee of Hoi An City with the participation of choir groups from different countries and regions. Besides the competition, the international choir groups, along with ASEAN and Vietnam art groups, will perform on the streets of Hoi An Ancient Town and a number of localities in the province. The final round of the 3rd Miss Ethnic Vietnam Pageant takes place from 10th to 26th of June in Hoi An City. This is a unique cultural event in honour of the beauty of young women from 54 ethnic communities settled in the country of Vietnam. The final judging and coronation of the Miss Ethnic Vietnam Pageant will be held at 8:00 pm on 26th of June, 2013 at Hoi An Theatre and will be broadcast live on VTV. The Arts Festival of the people of Vietnam will open at 7:30 pm on the 21st of June 2013 in Tam Ky City. The artistic teams representing cultural regions from the whole country will create a multicolor picture, and reflect the vivid cultural and spiritual life of the Vietnamese ethnic communities. During the festival, the artistic teams will participate in performances to serve the community at localities in the province. The opening of the Exhibition of "ASEAN and Vietnam Cultural Heritage Space" takes place at 07:30 pm on the 21st of June 2013 at An Hoi statue garden park next to Hoai River, Hoi An City. The exhibition takes visitors through different cultural regions of Vietnam with the natural and cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO. Concurrently, visitors will enjoy the most vivid heritage images of the countries in the South East Asia. Along with cultural and art programs, there are a number of vibrant, exciting sports activities in the Festival such as National Beach Football, “Quang Nam Heritage Festival” Golf tournament, Quang Nam traditional boat race, and traditional martial arts of the Central Highlands region. In the framework of "Quang Nam Heritage Festival", there will be a conference on promoting investment in Quang Nam province, an international workshop on the conservation of intangible cultural heritage, a workshop on promoting the value of cultural heritage with tourism development, and a press conference on communication links for tourism development with the participation of managers, scientists, journalists, diplomats and businessmen. On the occasion of this festival, Quang Nam province will launch new tourist products: Ha Thanh tourist beach in Tam Ky City; Hot mineral water baths, and enjoyment of the scenery in Phu Ninh Lake – the largest irrigation project in the Central Highlands -- a marvel of human physical strength; Experience of swallow nest farming at the world biosphere reserve Cham island; Exploration of Cham culture and sacred space at My Son sanctuary with homestays; Visits to the countryside, traditional villages and discovery of the area’s revolutionary history; Visits to a private museum with thousands of objects on display in Chu Lai; a grand opening of a tour to experience the battlefield- "The legendary Ho Chi Minh trail", visits to the traditional weaving village Zora and to the Grang waterfall (Nam Giang district), and to Bho Hoong and Dhroong villages (Dong Giang district). At the Festival, Quang Nam province will announce the two specialties being set up for national and Asian records: Be thui Cau Mong, and Quang noodles. In addition, there are a number of other activities, such as: a Food Festival "Vietnamese delicious dishes" introducing typical dishes of famous Vietnamese chefs, a display of antiques including 500 antique lamps in Dien Ban Cultural History Museum, an exhibition of handicraft products “Signature products”, a classic car show, a kite art show and other tourism and cultural activities. A special part of the 5th “Quang Nam Heritage Festival” will be the reappearance of unique cultural and religious activities and the life of the ancient Cham civilization through the program "Cham Culture Festival Day" held at My Son World Heritage site. Simultaneously, the program “The reappearance of Hội An Legendary Night in the early XX century” will take place under a full moon at Hoi An Ancient Town during the festival.
