AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE! Ashton Godsey reviews her time Virginia Governors School for the Arts: Governors School for Visual and Performing Arts was an unforgettable experience! There were 400 people who attended: 200 for Humanities and 200 for Visual and Performing Arts. Out of those 200, only 21 were dancers. I took classes in ballet, modern, jazz, Capoeira, belly dance, ultra barre, and my favorite class, dance technology. In dance technology, we were challenged to think of dance through a technical point of view instead of movement. Our final project was for each of us to make a short video segment expressing what dance was through a camera lens. I decided to use a rhythm sequence incorporated into various scenes for my video segment. It was challenging, but I found that I really enjoyed capturing dance from behind the camera and not just the movement and performance aspect in which I am accustomed. Led by Danah Bella, the instructors and choreographers were top notch and wonderful to work with. I am so grateful for the nomination and opportunity!
