AN UPDATE ON THE OXYGEN PROJCT A friend of mine is fighting for his life right now in a London hospital. He was admitted a week ago in a private hospital in Freetown which is ranked as one of the best in the country but they couldn’t administer oxygen to him because the little they had ran out. I was contacted by one of his relatives a week ago enquiring if I knew where they can get oxygen for him in Freetown and I suggested the new teaching hospital at Jui built and operated by the Chinese. As his condition got worse, they had to fly him out of the country to London. If he didn’t have the resources to seek medical help in London, he would have died last week in Freetown. His story reminded me about the reason why we embarked on this very bold and critical campaign to send oxygen concentrators and supplies to our beloved Sierra Leone to save lives. The oxygen campaign that we are on is for the people of Sierra Leone many of whom are our relatives that cannot afford the cost of private hospitals and whose lives we seek to save. These oxygen equipment will be distributed among several district hospitals in the country. Our desire and hope is for all the district hospitals in the country to have oxygen equipment and supplies. This is not a Donald Osman or Land That We Love-SL project but it is our collective project as the credit will be shared by all who contributed to make this a life saving process. A 40ft container of oxygen concentrators and supplies is worth $650,000. That is what it is costing the partners that we have asked to help us with this project. All we are contributing to is the ground transportation, warehousing, handling and shipping cost. When the container gets to Freetown, it will be cleared through the Port, duty free and Tax free as the consignee is the Government of Sierra Leone.
